It's the little things

...right?

Some days, it really is the little things that keep my head above water.

Some days, I would just rather not think about the heavy stuff.

Some days, I simply can't.

And some days, I am just so heartbroken for those around the world who are suffering, I can't help but be thankful for all the little pieces of magic that surround my ordinary life.

These are just some of the things that supply me with satisfaction:

Each song is a personal savior of mine

A little ditty from the album...

Blue nail polish and Starbucks (duh)
I have colored nail polish (still) and I am NOT afraid to use it.

Bright flowers sent by even brighter people
Look at that bad boy right in the center, hogging the entire show.  :)

A silly but sentimental keepsake
Bren gave me this when we were first dating.  It was kind of a joke (he found it on a table outside of his work), but I played along and pretended like it was the best gift I had ever received.  It turns out, it was.  I have saved it for years now.  He laughs at me that I've kept it.  But I love it.  I just do.

I'm still six
My relationship with Spaghetti-0's is borderline insane...

Mid-day pictures of my adorable niece, Peyton
...For obvious reasons...

Things I Love... On the 3's

Watching my husband put on a suit

piece by piece, adjusting each component along the way.
My favorite parts are the tie and the belt.
I suppose I really just love looking at him regardless,
but there is a certain confidence about him when he's suiting up.
-shoulders back, chin up-
Just such a sexy process.
Note: I also like watching the other end of this transaction....

Jeweled rings

I love big jewels that bling up my finger.
Since I don't enjoy having a ring on every finger, I
sometimes like to double them up like this... it adds fanciness.
These rings in particular are rings that my momma passed down to me.
The top one--silver and blue--was from her dad (my PopPop).
When she was a young girl,
he used to use his breaks from work
to buy her pretty jewelry from local pawn shops.
I just love that.

Finding new music, artists, songs on Pandora

I sit at a computer 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
And while there a certainly times that I have
numerous projects to manage,
my work can get quite mundane (to say the least).
If there's ever a point in my day where I feel like I've lost myself,
it is more than a likely fact that Pandora has not been on at all that day.
Case in point-- Music carries me.

Any Other Name

I play Pandora while I work... whistling hurts my lips  ;)

I wanted to share Thomas Newman's Any Other Name It has been in movies such as American Beauty and Revolutionary Road, and I remember it's significance as a part of a story, a plot, an emotion.  But when heard unconnected with a film, this song has a beauty and a specialty of its very own.

Every time I hear this song, I am instantly at peace. It makes me think about breathing.  It stirs up an appreciation in me for the simplicity and totality of life on our Earth.

What does it make you feel?  What and/or who does it make you think of?

Jar of Hearts

officially obsessed with these lyrics

I know I can't take one more step towards you
Cause all that's waiting is regret
And don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
You lost the love I loved the most

I learned to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are
Running 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are

I hear you're asking all around
If I am anywhere to be found
But I have grown too strong
To ever fall back in your arms

And learn to live half alive
And now you want me one more time

And who do you think you are
Running 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Who do you think you are

Dear, it took so long just to feel alright
Remember how to put back the light in my eyes
I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed
Cause you broke all your promises
And now you're back
You don't get to get me back

And who do you think you are
Running 'round leaving scars
Collecting your jar of hearts
And tearing love apart
You're gonna catch a cold
From the ice inside your soul
So don't come back for me
Don't come back at all
